Air Products of Trexlertown has announced that it has signed an agreement for a $5 billion production facility in that will be the largest green project in the world.

The facility, which will produce and export 650 tons of carbon-free hydrogen per day for the transportation industry, is expected to save 3 million tons of carbon dioxide per year.

is working with ACWA Power and NEOM on the hydrogen-based ammonia production facility, which will be powered by renewable energy and owned by all three partners.

The hydrogen will be generated through electrolysis using thyssenkrupp technology. Air Products announced its partnership with that company for global green hydrogen production projects earlier this week.

“We are honored and proud to partner with ACWA Power and NEOM and use proven technologies to make the world’s dream of 100 percent green energy a reality,” said Seifi Ghasemi, chairman, president and CEO for Air Products. “Harnessing the unique profile of NEOM’s sun and wind to convert water to hydrogen, this project will yield a totally clean source of energy on a massive scale and will save the world over 3 million tons of CO2 emissions annually and eliminate smog-forming emissions and other pollutants from the equivalent of over 700,000 cars.”

The project is scheduled to be complete in 2025.
