Air Products has received preliminary land approvals from Upper Macungie and Lower Macungie townships for a new global headquarters that will span both communities.
The headquarters, which will include an administrative building, research and development facility and a parking structure, is planned for a 53-acre tract of land off the Route 222 bypass and Mill Creek Road. It is about one mile away from the industrial gas producer’s current campus on Hamilton Boulevard.
Seifi Ghasemi, Air Products chairman, president and CEO, today presented updated plans for the new headquarters, including a conceptual rendering.
The plans call for a glass exterior, high-efficiency, 9-story administration building that will be approximately 525,000 square feet. The original plan called for 10 stories, but the designers instead lengthened the building.
The research and development building will be approximately 100,000 square feet.
The parking structure will be a 6-story enclosed building that will also include a fitness center, greenery and a rooftop solar array.
The orientation of the buildings has also been changed to better support traffic flows into the site.
“At our new headquarters, we want to create an environment that is energizing and collaborative – a place where everyone is inspired to work together and win together, and to give their very best,” Ghasemi said in a release.
The company said it still needs a stormwater permit from the Lehigh County Conservation District and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. It hopes to obtain the permit by the end of March.
Air Products hopes to have the new campus completed by summer 2021. It expects to have 2,000 employees at the site.
