Appalachia Technologies to host cybersecurity summit

Mechanicsburg-based is hosting a for business leaders. 

Appalachia Advance2023, to be held at in Grantville Nov. 2, will be led by Appalachia’s cybersecurity experts and community leaders to update and educate attendees on the latest threats to organizational security and ways to solve them. 

The full-day free event for business owners, CIOs, CISOs, and IT security leaders will offer workshops and general talks on executive and technical topics, Appalachia said.  

“This event is designed to benefit an organization’s entire team, from executive to technical staff,” said Terri Bendl, vice president of Sales and Marketing at Appalachia. “We encourage companies to bring their key team members for a day of learning and networking with other businesses in our community.”  

Joshua Copeland, security director at AT&T, will kick off the event and Special Agent Daniel A. Sherry will discuss current threats and attacks and when a business should engage the FBI. 

 Panel discussions to be held include: 

  •  Cyber Risk is a Business Risk – An Executive’s Guide to Cybersecurity with Devin Chwastyk, chair of the Privacy & Data Security Group, McNees Law; Greg Gunn, president & CEO, Gunn-Mowery; Mike Miller, CISO, Appalachia Technologies; and John Sancenito, president, Information Network Associates (INA).  
  • Building v. Partnering: Exploring the Pathways of IT Management with Naomi Buckwalter, founder and executive director, Cybersecurity Gatebreakers Foundation; Wil Klusovsky, director, Cybersecurity Market Strategy, Stratascale; and Mike Miller, CISO, Appalachia Technologies.  
  • Unlocking the Code: Securing Cloud APIs with Joel Prentice, Sr. security engineer, Appalachia Technologies. 
  • The Sky Isn’t Falling – A Practical View of AI with Yoel Alvarez, Sr., security engineer, Appalachia Technologies, and Jason Atwell, cyber strategist, Google.
