Area hospitals make U.S. News top rankings

Reading Hospital in West Reading was the only hospital that got a national ranking in a specialty. It was listed as 47th in ear, nose and throat

The 29th annual rankings compared data on more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide across 25 specialties, procedures and conditions.

Among the top hospitals in Pennsylvania:

• 5 – Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Salisbury Township.

• 6 – St. Luke’s University Hospital in Bethlehem.

• 6 – Reading Hospital in West Reading.

• 23 – Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg in Bethlehem.

High performing in specialties, procedures and conditions:

• LVH-Cedar Crest was ranked high performing in five categories: gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, geriatrics, nephrology, orthopedics and pulmonology. It was ranked high performing in eight adult procedures/conditions: abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, colon cancer surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), hip replacement and knee replacement.

• LVH-Muhlenberg was ranked high performing in neurology procedures/conditions for aortic valve surgery and heart failure.

• St. Luke’s University Hospital in Bethlehem was ranked high performing in two adult specialties: geriatrics and orthopedics and seven procedures and conditions: abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, hearth bypass surgery, heart failure treatment, colon cancer surgery, lung cancer surgery and treating COPD.

• Reading Hospital in West Reading was ranked as high performing in the national ranking of specialties in ear, nose and throat. It ranked high performing in pulmonology and six procedures and conditions: COPD, colon cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, hip replacement, knee replacement.

• Surgical Institute of Reading in Wyomissing was ranked high performing in hip replacement and knee replacement.

• Coordinated Health-Bethlehem was ranked high performing in hip replacement and knee replacement.

• Grand View Health-Sellersville was ranked high performing in knee replacement.
