Breslin Architects, headquartered in Allentown, has provided architecture, programming, and master planning services for educational, institutional, and civic projects for more than six decades. Principals Stephen J. Behrens and Michael R. Bell oversee a 23-person firm founded in 1964.
Robert Breslin and John Ridyard established the firm with a passion for designing educational environments — an emphasis on architecture of enduring value that defined the practice from its earliest years. Breslin led the firm through 2009 and continued working there until his passing in 2023.
Robin Breslin eventually joined his father and later repositioned the firm following the recession. In 2017, Behrens and Bell — both longtime architects with the firm — became principals. Their focus on educational design means constant adaptation to new trends in teaching and learning, leveraging technology to improve client communication while maintaining the commitment to quality the firm was built on.
The firm’s longevity rests on experienced architects working alongside younger professionals with a shared goal of delivering exceptional projects. Community engagement is built into the workflow — end-users participate in design discussions and workshops to ensure each building responds to the specific needs and culture of its community. “Two of our greatest strengths are maintaining a consistent team and successfully managing our workload so that firm principals remain involved in every project,” the firm says.
