More than 900 volunteers from 50 area companies spread out throughout the Lehigh Valley Thursday to help on projects for 60 area nonprofits.
June 20 marked the 27th annual United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley’s Day of Caring, which is run in partnership with the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley. The local workers join volunteers around the globe in the day of community service.
“People want to get involved and give back. We’re so proud to partner with Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley to create opportunities for them to become engaged in our community,” said David Lewis, president of the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley.
Dozens of companies ranging from City Center Allentown to Crayola Inc. gave their employees the day to volunteer at activities ranging from building and restocking libraries at urban schools and community centers to delivering meals to seniors.
Last year, more than 900 individuals representing more than 45 companies contributed the equivalent of $108,000 in volunteer hours for the Day of Caring.
