To meet the needs of their growing practice, two Berks County dentists are investing in construction of what will be their new home.
Dr. Michael Shuman and Dr. Brian Schwab will participate Monday in a groundbreaking for their new site at 109 Anna Ave. in Maidencreek Township.
The two dentists, Shuman & Schwab, DMD, PC, occupy space on Park Road, also in Maidencreek Township.
“They have a location that’s about two miles from this one and they wanted to stay in the community where their patients are at,” said Nick Stoltzfus, president of DESCCO, Design & Construction Inc. of Fleetwood, the company that is building the office.
The dentists have completed additions and renovations to their Park Road site over the years but found themselves in need of more space.
The new facility will be 4,200 square feet and should be finished by mid-August, Stoltzfus said.
Once complete, it will have nine patient rooms, a business office and waiting area, plus offer more parking spaces and room for staff and patients.
Locally owned businesses are working on a bulk of the project, from concept to finished flooring.
The architect is Watkins Architect LTD of Fleetwood. The heating, ventilation and air conditioning work will be done by M&M Mechanical LLC of Richmond. Plumbing work will be done by Earl F. Kegerise Inc. of Ruscombmanor Township, electrical work by Pagoda Electrical Inc. of Alsace Township, site work by Carl Bales Excavating Inc. of Hereford Township, flooring by Oley Interiors of Alsace Township and paving by Ronnie C. Folk Paving Inc. of Shoemakersville.
Stoltzfus declined to disclose the estimated construction cost.
