The Waterfront Development Company and the Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce co-hosted a hard hat tour of 615 Waterfront Drive on June 9.

At the event, the developer announced the first building’s name and branding and unveiled the first look at a new flythrough of The Waterfront

The Waterfront project is being constructed on land previously owned by Lehigh Structural Steel, a steel fabrication company that took over the former Iron Works property in 1919.

The steel fabricator was founded by William H. Mohr, Thomas R. Mullen, and Les Kift.

Les Kift and Thomas Mullen would go on to create a neighborhood park in the 6th Ward, Kift-Mullen Park, which later closed when Lehigh Structural Steel was sold in 1992. William Mohr served as an Executive Vice President of and plant manager of Lehigh Structural Steel until he retired in 1954.

In honor of the company’s founders, the developers said that the southern public square at the intersection of Allen Street and Waterfront Drive would be called “Kift Square”, whereas the northern public square at the intersection of Furnace Street and Waterfront Drive would be called “Mullen Square”.

Meanwhile, 615 Waterfront, the 125,000-square-foot office building that will be the first vertical construction at The Waterfront will be be named “The Mohrbanc”.

The Mohrbanc is scheduled to open Oct. 28 of this year.
