Northampton Community College is holding a free hands-on program to provide students with the skills needed to fill machining positions in Lehigh Valley and the Poconos.
The eight-week training program, financed by a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, will teach fundamental skills in manufacturing including safety, reading blueprints, shop math, measurement and the use of calipers and Vernier scales and operating lathes and milling machines, NCC said.
An introduction to computer numerical control machining is also covered. Instruction will focus on preparing students to sit for specified National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) certifications.
Occupational skill building and workplace employability skills are also included in the curriculum.
The training program runs from June 10 – August 9, 8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., Mondays –Fridays and will be held at the Career Institute of Technology, 5335 Kesslersville Rd., Easton, Mondays – Thursdays and Fowler Family Southside Center, 511 E. Third St., Bethlehem on Fridays.
