Fromm, a wholesale electrical distribution company serving the Mid-Atlantic region, has been in business since 1923. The company operates eight supply branches and an engineering services subsidiary. John Hanna serves as CEO, with third-generation owners Michael Fromm, chairman, and Lou Fromm, vice president of business development, remaining active in the business. Andrew Nairin — Michael’s son-in-law — joined in 2025, marking the fourth generation’s entry.

Brothers Alexander and Louis Fromm opened a home appliance storefront in Morristown, NJ in 1923 with a staff of four. They recognized that contractors lacked a consistent supply source for electrical materials and transformed the retail shop into a wholesale distribution business. When they identified a similar gap in the industrial market, they expanded to serve the region’s growing manufacturing sector.

Growth required breaking out of that single Morristown location. The brothers built a regional branch network — eight locations today — and added an engineering services subsidiary that designs, builds, and installs control systems for manufacturing customers. In 2009, the family transitioned from a family-run operation to a professionally managed enterprise, installing a succession process built on talent rather than birthright. “A century in business has taught us that the ability to adapt is one of the keys to survival,” the company stated.

Philanthropic efforts have centered on the United Way, with additional support for organizations focused on education, the arts, addiction treatment, and economic development. Employees volunteer throughout the region, reflecting what the company describes as a culture in which “giving back is as integral to the business as serving customers.”
