Gary Schmidt, chair of the board of trustees of the Allentown-based Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network, has been named interim president and CEO of the organization.
He succeeds John Kristel, who left Good Shepherd at the end of November to become CEO of Government Brands, a financial software company that serves different levels of government.
Schmidt has been an advisory board member at Good Shepherd since 1997 and became chair in 2017.
Schmidt recently retired from Mondelez Global LLC of Tatamy where he served as a human resource executive for nearly 30 years.
Prior to that, he worked for National Steel Corp. and Jones & Laughlin Steel Corp.
The official search for a permanent president and CEO has not yet gotten underway.
