Deavens, who assumed his current role for Independence Health Group, parent of Independence Blue Cross, in January 2021, made Modern Healthcare’s 2021 list of the “100 Most Influential People in Healthcare.”
He previously held executive leadership positions with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co.
As part of his responsibilities at Independence, Deavens serves on the boards of AmeriHealth Caritas, Tandigm Health, AmeriHealth Assurance, BCS Financial Corp. and International Plan Solutions.
Deavens is also chairman of the board of directors of Hartford HealthCare and serves on the boards of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, America’s Health Insurance Plans and the African American Museum in Philadelphia.
He and his wife, Beverly, the parents of three grown children, live in Philadelphia.
