Looking back on the firm’s more than four decades in real estate, Jeffrey Sicher, vice president/partner of the John Monaghan Group of Kutztown Realtors, said the secret to the company’s success probably would hold true across a variety of businesses and industries – clients want to be treated as more than just a number.
“In the 1980s, the trend for most businesses, including real estate offices, was to get big. That was in the days where the business mantra was ‘Get big or get out,’ ” he said.
“Business and consumer attitudes have changed a lot over 30 years. Clients don’t just want to be a number, which is usually how they feel about large companies in general. By being independent, we can offer everything that any size business can offer.”
The services provided by the Monaghan Group consist of residential sales for existing homes and new construction. Technology, particularly the internet, has been key for Monaghan to compete with larger businesses, Sicher said.
“Covering a large rural area of Berks and Lehigh counties, we participate in agricultural properties and gentleman farms,” Sicher said. “We represent industrial clients in Berks and Lehigh counties in the purchase or lease of their warehouse and manufacturing facilities.”
Technology has been a driving force behind growing the business founded in 1972, and now selling to the third generation of families, Sicher said.
“Being present with information for the buying public to see is key,” he said. “Company websites, Facebook sites are widely used.
“Our goal of customer satisfaction continues to give us repeat business over the decades.”
A first-time customer of the Monaghan Group, Jonathan Weiss is president and founder of OMA (Oswald’s Mill Audio), a producer of high-end audio equipment.
With its showroom in Dumbo on the Brooklyn, N.Y., waterfront, soon OMA will own a complex of older buildings in Fleetwood thanks to the Monaghan Group and Sicher.
