I’m in my seventh year at the institution, and my job is twofold. As a professor, I teach, conduct research and provide service to the college, as a department head, I am responsible for overseeing all aspects of the department, including hiring, course scheduling, faculty development, budgeting and so on. 

I’m most proud of the hiring that has occurred during my seven years as department head. During this period, the department has added eight new faculty members, including six assistant professors, who have changed the face of the department by injecting youth and vitality. 

The most important lesson I have learned? To be respectful of my colleagues. Even though I may not agree with a colleague, if I respect their views, it often goes a long way to helping close the difference between us. 

I am an avid gamer who enjoys board games, card games and online games. Games provide a form of mental exercise that keeps my mind sharp. They also provide a space in which to relax and enjoy friends and family.
