He also picked a clever name for his niche business: Java Medic Coffee.
“I realized how many health care workers love and depend on coffee every day,” Adams said about why he started the caffeine-rich business to accommodate those in his industry.
Since employees and volunteers in hospital, medical office, paramedic and fire department roles often are in high-stress circumstances where they need plenty of energy to perform their duties, coffee just makes sense to sell to them.
“Local fire companies and nurses order a lot of gift baskets around the holidays,” Adams noted.
Today, Adams has more than 25 flavors of coffee, and they’re sourced from local roasters. He has sold to customers in all 50 states.
The alliterative and playful names of Adams’ coffee flavors add levity for his customers amid the pressure of their professions.
“People laugh at the names of the coffee and love the medical humor,” he said.
Adams’ Trauma Mama Coffee, a blend of wild rum and caramel, is a top seller, as is CPR, which stands for Colombian Premium Roast.
9-1-1 Coffee, a medium roast Sumatra flavor, Hazmat Hazelnut, a cinnamon hazelnut coffee, and Ruptured Raspberry, a chocolate raspberry truffle coffee, are some other products in his lineup. As is BP, which stands for bourbon pecan pie coffee, not blood pressure.
