As president, Murphy is the chief executive officer of Berks County Community Foundation. He supervises the business and operations of the foundation and serves on the board of directors.

“Over the past year, Berks County Community Foundation has been tested by growth in a challenging environment,” he explained. “Throughout the pandemic, (its) assets had grown, from $80 million to $120 million, and we expect that growth to continue. In the past, we’ve prided ourselves on maintaining a small, professional staff. However, we realized that to continue to effectively serve the community, we were going to have to grow our team. Hiring in this environment has been challenging. Building a great team has been our top priority and required us to stay focused … . While 2022 marked a year of transition, it also marks the beginning of a new era … . Overcoming that transition was possible because of the dedication of the current and new staff to uphold our mission statement to promote philanthropy and improve the quality of life for the residents of Berks County.”
