Before Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) became what it’s known for today, the organization said it began with 13 compassionate, civic-minded women over 125 years ago.
“Caring deeply about the health and well-being of their community, they raised $5,300 for a plot of land at 17th and Chew streets in Allentown,” the company stated. In 1899, the Allentown Hospital opened thanks to their efforts. In August 2024, LVHN became part of Jefferson Health.
“LVHN, like most health systems, faced unprecedented challenges in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, including staffing shortages, higher-than-normal inpatient volumes, decreased funding and supply chain disruptions,” the company stated. “Despite the obstacles, we have maintained financial health and introduced robust and innovative programs to recruit and train top talent.”
Joseph G. Cacchione serves as CEO of the health organization, overseeing 23,000 LVHN colleagues, who are part of Jefferson’s 65,000 total employees.
“LVHN is committed to helping improve the health of our communities by being a proactive health care partner,” the company shared, noting it achieves this mission by bringing education, screenings and services to the greater community. “Everything we do is rooted in our mission to improve lives.”
