Local sports fans show spirit with Eagles tickets, Saquon Barkley merchandise

StubHub, an online ticket reseller, said that tickets to a NFL matchup between the 2018 Super Bowl champion Eagles and the Jacksonville Jaguars in London are its most in-demand football game this season.

“This marks the first time an international game makes StubHub’s most in-demand list, let alone tops the list,” the company said in a release.

And yes, it is Eagles fans that seem to be the ones buying the seats.

Stub Hub said 37 percent of overall sales for the game are from Pennsylvania. StubHub noted that is the highest proportion of sales from an individual state for an NFL game in London. (Annually, several NFL games are played in London.)

“Eagles fans have always been passionate, but their Super Bowl win has truly ignited the fan base to unprecedented levels, as we’re seeing them willing to travel long distances to watch their team play,” said Scott Jablonski, StubHub’s general manager of NFL, NBA and NHL.

Overall, the Eagles come up a little short, and to a rival. The Dallas Cowboys are the top in-demand team on StubHub for the fifth straight year, the reseller said.

The Eagles were No. 3, the first time they made the top five.

And local sports fans are not just opening their wallets for the Eagles.

Whitehall High School and Penn State alumnus Saquon Barkley, who is starting his rookie year with the New York Giants, took the No. 1 spot in eBay sales and searches for NFL players.

“NFL fans are eager to show their support for top rookies, regardless of the demand the team may be driving,” said Sam Bright, vice president of soft goods, North America at eBay. “Even though the Giants didn’t break the top 10 in StubHub’s rankings, the excitement for Saquon Barkley is undeniable, as we’ve seen remarkably strong demand since he was drafted in the first round by the Giants in April.”
