Mayor

Allentown

Tuerk, the grandson of a Cuban immigrant, was elected mayor in November 2021. At the victory celebration, he said, “We’re about to embark on something really special in Allentown with just a new look in the mayor’s office, and I think it’s something that the people in Allentown have been clamoring for.”

Previously, Tuerk was vice president of economic development with the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corp. He led the group in attracting billions of dollars to the region and creating thousands of jobs, according to his mayoral bio. LVEDC was recognized as a Top 20 Economic Development Organization by Site Selection magazine in 2019 and 2020.

Tuerk is the first Spanish-speaking mayor in Allentown’s history. He and his wife, Karen, have two daughters, Amelia and Margot
