Biological Specialty Corp., a Colmar-based company that has supplied human blood and other biological products to researchers for 37 years, was acquired by BioIVT of Westbury, N.Y.
The financial details were not disclosed.
BioIVT said it will retain all of Biological Specialty’s employees, its headquarters in Montgomery County and its two donor centers in Allentown and Reading.
Jeff Widdoss, CEO of Biological Specialty, said in a statement that BioIVT was a “like-minded partner whose desire to provide the highest quality of research samples and top-notch customer service equals our own … Together we will be able to help our clients accelerate their drug discovery and immunotherapy research.”
Jeff Gatz, CEO of BioIVT, said, “BSC brings a decades-long reputation for top notch quality, compliance and customer service. BSC’s capabilities will enable BioIVT to provide same-day fresh material to the biotech industry in the Northeast corridor.
Gatz said Biological Specialty will strengthen BioIVT’s immunology business line, “enabling BioIVT to provide a full range of blood-derived cells and cellular products ranging from leukopack-derived peripheral blood mononuclear cells to CD34 stem cells.”
Biological Specialty’s products include blood, plasmas and sera, white blood cells and other biologicals.
BioIVT, formerly BioreclamationIVT, is a provider of research models and services for drug discovery and development. The company specializes in control and disease-state biospecimens, including human and animal tissues, cell products, blood and other biofluids.
