The Greater Lehigh Valley has once again dodged the worst of national retail closings.
Radio Shack, which filed for bankruptcy for the second time last week, has announced it will be closing 552 stores across the country.
While there are a number of closures planned in Pennsylvania, only one – the Radio Shack in Wind Gap – is being closed in the Greater Lehigh Valley.
The electronics retailer will maintain stores in Reading, Kutztown, Whitehall Township, Allentown, Lower Macungie Township, Brodheadsville and East Stroudsburg.
The latest closures leave Radio Shack with 1,000 stores, which the company said it will continue to evaluate.
On its website, Radio Shack said, “RadioShack is exploring all available options for the company, including alternative business models that will enable it to keep some stores open on an ongoing basis.”
Radio Shack said 187 of the stores are closing immediately and another 365 will be closing by the first week of April.
