The Morgan Hill Golf Course in Williams Township is now under new ownership.
With that change, comes millions of dollars in expansion plans, upgrades and improvements designed to make the upscale 18-hole course more family friendly and affordable.
Sal and Maria Lapio, who took ownership in March, made several updates with more on the way, said Patrick Mallory, director of golf. The owners changed the name from The Club at Morgan Hill to The Morgan Hill Golf Course and renovated the restaurant, changing its name from Vintage Restaurant & Bar to The View at Morgan Hill, Mallory said.
“The full menu will go into effect next week,” Mallory said. “It’s more family oriented; the dishes are more affordable, but kid-friendly.”
Among these changes are entrees that range from $16 to $20, $5 appetizers and drink specials and a $10 menu for golfers Monday through Friday.
The new bar has eight bar taps instead of five and seven new wine taps, Mallory said.
The owners want to enclose the rear deck of the restaurant with glass, while still offering unobstructed views of the course. The property offers views of the Delaware River, Easton, Northampton County, Phillipsburg, N.J., and Pocono Mountains.
The restaurant will host live music Friday and Saturday nights.
“Further down the road, an additional room will be available for indoor functions,” Mallory said.
The owners also changed the membership fee for a season pass from about $3,000 to $750, he added.
Morgan Hill invested in Cart Trac global positioning systems for golf carts, placed clocks throughout the course and added more rangers to keep the pace of play to 4½ hours or less, which Mallory said is the ultimate goal.
The bulk of the changes come from the need to stay competitive, attract new members and retain existing ones.
“It’s a very competitive market,” he said. “We want good players, we want fast rounds, so we made these changes for the golfers.”
