Mount Airy Casino Resort in Mount Pocono has begun accepting reservations for new guest rooms that will be opening soon as part of a $40 million expansion.
The new hotel and convention center that make up the expansion are virtually complete and will officially open April 1.
The resort is adding 100 guest rooms to the resort, bringing it to a total of 288 rooms.
Vincent Jordan, vice president of marketing and gaming operations, noted there was room to grow at the resort.
“Our existing hotel currently operates at a 98 percent occupancy rate,” he said in a release.
There is also a 16,000-square-foot addition to the existing ballroom and events center.
The current events space can accommodate up to 200 people. The new events and convention center will bring the resort to more than 20,000 square feet and allow it to accommodate up to 750 people for weddings and sit-down dinners and 1,200 attendees for corporate and other events.
For corporate events, the convention center and additional onsite meeting rooms can be split into nine smaller rooms, allowing for breakout session and specialty floor plans.
Chris Barrett, executive director of the Pocono Mountains Visitor’s Bureau, said the addition is an excellent addition to the accommodations being offered in the region.
“This puts us on the map in a really big way,” Barrett said.
The addition will bring 200 new jobs to the resort.
