Banking and finance
S&P Global Market Intelligence ranked Hanover Township, Northampton County-based Embassy Bank For the Lehigh Valley 23rd on its 2022 list of the top 50 best-performing US community banks in the Northeast with total assets under $10 billion. Banks were ranked based on seven metrics, including pre-tax return on tangible common equity, efficiency ratio, cost of funds, five-year average operating revenue growth, five-year average net charge-offs to average loans and leases ratio, nonperforming assets and loans 90 days or more past due as a percentage of total assets. 447 community banks and thrifts were eligible for the ranking, and Embassy was the only Lehigh Valley-based bank on this list.
Lower Saucon Township, Northampton County-based Youngs Advisory Group changed its name to Tiller Private Wealth. “Tiller” refers to the handle that steers a sailboat and reflects its commitment to ensure clear direction and to navigate an ever-changing marketplace. A tiller is also a tool that helps farmers plant seeds to grow crops, and it reflects the firm’s commitment to help clients grow and preserve wealth.

U.S. Small Business Administration’s Eastern Pennsylvania District Office named Jimmy Olang, president of South Whitehall Township, Lehigh County-based The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Lehigh Valley, Eastern Pennsylvania Small Business Person of the Year.
Education
Bloomberg Philanthropies recognized Allentown, Lehigh County-based Muhlenberg College as an American Talent Initiative High-Flier. Muhlenberg is among 28 high-graduation-rate institutions across the United States that Bloomberg designated as leaders in college access and success for lower-income students. Muhlenberg was recognized for its steady gains in lower-income student enrollment since 2015-16; its increasing share of Pell Grant recipients, who are undergraduate students with exceptional financial need; and its recruitment, enrollment and retention practices. Gettysburg College is the only other Pennsylvania institution receiving this recognition.
Health care
Allentown, Lehigh County-based Lehigh Valley Health Network honored 38 nurses and other health care professionals during its 2023 Friends of Nursing awards program.
Law
Lawdragon Inc. included Marion Munley, Daniel W. Munley and Caroline Munley on its 2023 Lawdragon 500 Leading Plaintiff Consumer Lawyers list. The list recognizes plaintiffs attorneys across the U.S. for bringing justice to individuals or groups who have suffered physical harm. The Munleys are attorneys with Munley Law, which has an office in Allentown, Lehigh County.
Manufacturing
U.S. Small Business Administration’s Eastern Pennsylvania District Office named Muhlenberg Township, Berks County-based Unique Snacks Family-Owned Small Business of the Year.
Nonprofits
Pennsylvania Court-Appointed Special Advocates, which has offices in Berks and Luzerne counties, named Deborah Ridenour of Berks County Volunteer of the Year. Volunteers are trained advocates who help children who have been abused, neglected or abandoned and make recommendations to a judge about what services or actions are in the child’s best interest.
