Federal funding is on the way for two airports in the region.
Lehigh Valley International Airport is receiving just under $5 million for infrastructure funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Queen City Municipal Airport in Allentown will receive just under $1.4 million.
The funds are being awarded through the Federal Airport Improvement Program.
“These awards for Lehigh Valley airports add to the consistent flow of much-needed funds to serve travelers in one of the fastest growing regions in Pennsylvania,” said U.S. Senator Bob Casey. “Improving runways will make these two airports safer and more efficient. A safe, effective airport means a better experience for travelers and greater investment in the Lehigh Valley’s economy.”
The funding for Lehigh Valley International Airport will be used to rehabilitate the airport’s runway. LVIA has received a total of nearly $51 million in federal investments since the start of 2021.
Allentown Queen City Municipal Airport has received $4.3 million. Its atest award will be used for runway lighting rehabilitation.
