Pa. gaming revenue for August increases by more than 11%

Revenue generated from all forms of gaming in Pennsylvania during August 2024 increased 11.6% over last August, the Gaming Control Board (GCB) announced Wednesday. 

The GCB reported that the combined total revenue generated from all forms of gaming, along with fantasy contests, during August 2024 was $510,169,390. Total tax revenue generated collectively through all forms of gaming and fantasy contests was $215,048,192 during August 2024. 

Slot machines, table games, internet gaming, sports wagering, fantasy contests and video gaming terminals (VGTs) are sources of gaming revenue regulated by the GCB. 

Revenue from the play of retail slot machines in August was $211,149,401, an increase over the $203,192,328 from August 2023. Slot machines in operation in August 2024 numbered 24,595 compared to 25,206 at casinos in August 2023. Tax revenue from the play of slots machines in August 2024 was $106,849,245. 

August’s retail table games revenue of $80,959,807, decreased from last August’s revenue of $82,676,497. Total tax revenue from table games play during August 2024 was $13,438,020. 

Internet casino-type gaming (iGaming) generated gross revenue totaling $183,738,032 during August 2024, an increase over the $144,980,774 from August 2023. Tax revenue generated from internet gaming play during August 2024 was $81,953,405. 

Total sports wagering handle for August 2024 was $485,289,137, an increase over the August 2023 total of $393,007,298. Taxable revenue figure for August 2024 was $30,002,574, an increase over the taxable revenue of $22,026,307 from last year at this time. Tax revenue generated from sports wagering during August 2024 was $10,800,927. 

August 2024 total adjusted revenue for VGTs, an increase over the August 2023 total of $3,484,985. All VGT Operators by the end of August 2024 offered the maximum permitted five machines at 74 qualified truck stop establishments, compared to five machines at 69 establishments last year. Tax revenue collected from the play of VGTs in August 2024 was $1,909,467. 

Revenue from fantasy contests in August 2024 was $647,522 in August 2024, a decrease from the revenue of $792,206 from last year at this time. Tax revenue collected from the play of fantasy contests in August 2024 was $97, 128.
