Paul Harak
Attorney and Partner
Holzinger, Harak & Scomillio
Paul Harak, a partner with Holzinger, Harak & Scomillo, is president of the Northampton County Bar Association.
“I try to lead by example,” he said. “As an attorney, I am in the service industry and it is important to develop a level of trust and confidence with our clients. It is important to me that they understand all their options so they can make an informed decision. My practice has a focus on real estate and I am also a real estate title insurance agent. My positive demeanor and even-handed approach help keep our office operating efficiently. Those elements have a positive impact on our employees.”
As to his career path, “I didn’t think about going to law school until my junior year at the University of Scranton. I then attended Widener University School of Law in Wilmington. In my final year … I participated in a program that allowed me to represent indigent individuals in domestic matters. Upon graduation I was employed with the firm I worked for the previous summer, Boyer and Holzinger.” Harak has been with that same small firm – now Holzinger, Harak & Scomillio – since 1991.
His wife, Shawn M. Dethlefsen, is also an attorney, and they’re the parents of Reid, Chloe and Isabelle. “I spend weekends watching or coaching my son, Reid, who … plays soccer and basketball. Chloe and Isabelle are twins and dance. I watch them perform in recitals and competitions … . As a family we like to spend time together and our favorite place is the beach.”
