In a two-day online auction with an opening bid of $100,000 the properties sold for a final bid of $500,000. The high bidder has not yet been identified.

The properties are seen as key by economic development officials who are looking to create a business district that shows active investment, economic growth and recreation opportunities for residents and tourists.

By focusing on redeveloping its riverfront corridor, Phillipsburg officials plan to create an attractive entry point that would lure visitors and bring greater visibility to that section of town.

The area these properties are located in is the first part of Phillipsburg that visitors see coming over from the free bridge that connects Easton to New Jersey.

75. S. Main St. already has approvals for the development of eight upscale apartment condos.

The other buildings already have three apartment units, all of which are currently occupied.
