Lightning Source LLC, a printer and distributor of print-on-demand books, is closing its facility in Breinigsville, eliminating 260 jobs.
The state was informed of the decision to shutter the Lehigh County operation at 860 Nestle Way, Upper Macungie Township, by the filing of a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification with the Department of Labor & Industry.
“All affected employees have been notified of their separation dates, or, as applicable, will be notified 60 days in advance of their separation dates once known and that their separation from employment will be permanent,” the notice said.
Layoffs start this month and will continue till the end of the year. A number of workers have taken advantage of the opportunity to transfer to another company-owned plant.
Lightning Source LLC is a business unit of La Vergne, Tennessee-based Ingram Content Group.
Ingram recently announced the expansion of its distribution center in Chambersburg, Franklin County, to become “a co-located, state-of-the-art print-on-demand and distribution center,” the company said in a statement. “As a result of this strategic investment,” the Breinigsville print-on-demand facility will officially close Nov. 1, with the last date of employment for associates being Dec. 31.
The company said Ingram has offered relocation opportunities and/or severance and outplacement assistance to the Breinigsville associates, who are not unionized. “Ingram is grateful for the contribution and dedication of all … associates, many of whom have chosen to relocate to the Chambersburg facility.”
