When Limarys Rodriguez founded LMG Marketing Solutions in Reading, her background was in web design.
But as she got deeper into the business, she expanded her services to encompass many other aspects of marketing for her clients.
There was one thing missing, though.
“I think I got into video pretty late in the game,” Rodriguez said. But the more she researched the benefits of incorporating video into marketing strategies, the more she was convinced her firm needed to hire a video expert and expand into that area.
As a marketing professional, Rodriguez knew that marketing a new service to clients can be very bland. She said it can be hard to get clients excited when you’re simply saying, “buy this new service from me.”
So instead of just putting together a run-of-the-mill marketing campaign to offer her new marketing services, Rodriguez decided to leave them laughing.
Her idea – to create a reality web series featuring herself trying to do the jobs of her clients.
With the idea, Rodriguez created an eight-episode series called “Get to Work”
In the five-minute episodes she meets up with her clients to do their job.
Her first episode took her to Urban Air to clean for her client, Sophie’s Bubbles, but she’s done everything from food service to a skincare solutions med spa for the series.
The aim, besides showing the high-end video production services she offers, is to make viewers laugh and enjoy the piece enough that they might even want to share it – or hire her firm.
“It’s easy to be funny, because it’s not very hard to pretend like you don’t know what you’re doing when I never got to experience what my clients do,” Rodriguez said.
Since the main purpose of the videos was to promote her business, she did not charge her clients to be part of the web series, instead she said featuring some of her longest and most loyal clients was her way of saying thank you to them for sticking by her and LMG.
“They’re faithful. They’ve been with us for a long time. They give us work. They give us referrals. This is kind of a thank you to them,” Rodriguez said.
She said all of her clients enjoyed participating in filming the episodes for the web series and her staff enjoyed making them.
It also seems that people are enjoying watching them.
When she posted her first episode it got more than 9,000 views, eventually climbing to 27,000 views for her third episode.
Not all of the episodes have been released on YouTube yet. She said she wanted to recreate the anticipation people had for new content
before the creation of streaming made it easy to binge watch an entire series all at once.
So, what’s going to happen when all eight episodes are out? Will there be a second season of “Get to Work?”
Rodriguez said with the popularity of season one, she’s definitely thinking about creating a second season of the web series, but not right away.
She said she’ll likely pause and work on another project before going back to her “Get to Work” idea, but people should definitely stay tuned.
“I don’t want this to get stale, and I have a lot of content to create,” she said.
