Sacred Heart Hospital sends labor and delivery to nearby St. Luke’s

After more than 100 years, babies no longer will be delivered at Sacred Heart Hospital at 421 Chew St. in Allentown.

The Sacred Heart HealthCare System, which recently announced a merger with St. Luke’s University Health Network, said that as of Oct. 10, the inner-city hospital no longer will offer labor and delivery services.

Obstetrics services will still be provided just a short distance away, however, through a new collaboration with St. Luke’s.

Under the collaboration, mothers will deliver babies at St. Luke’s Allentown campus at 1736 Hamilton St.

Sacred Heart will continue to provide prenatal visits during pregnancy, maternal fetal medicine visits and checkup visits after delivery at Sacred Heart OB/GYN Services, Sigal Center for Family Medicine at 450 Chew St., Allentown.

Sacred Heart OB/GYN Services also will continue to offer gynecology services.
