A popular rite of spring in the region has been added to the list of postponed events because of the coronavirus.
Rita’s Italian Ice said it plans to postpone its annual First Day of Spring Giveaway. The chain, which traditionally gives away free Italian ice, said it will not be offering the giveaway this year. The giveaway would have been on March 19. The giveaway tends to draw large crowds, which are being discouraged to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
Rita’s said its locations will, however, be open. The shops are generally walk up windows that serve take out, which are allowed under the governor’s business closure order.
