Stop, think, connect: Free steps to enhance cybersecurity

As a business owner or manager, you use the internet.

If your computer stops working, it might be repairable.

If a cellphone screen cracks, it usually is replaceable.

If your network gets hacked, it definitely is not reversible.

Simple prevention methods may help to deter many attacks on your systems, however it is not nearly enough. Routine and continuous monitoring and updating and maintaining of cybersecurity are required by every business owner or manager to ensure safety of your workplace data and privacy.

It may seem as if there are many barriers to entry for business owners or managers to begin implementing cybersecurity solutions. Setting up proper cybersecurity solutions may seem like a daunting, intimidating task and many may think cybersecurity can be extremely expensive to deploy.

However, there are many free resources available for business owners to easily set up a safe cyber environment. Here are a few of them:

Cybersecurity experts have indicated cybercrime will increase from $3 trillion in 2015 to more than $6 trillion by 2021.

In the coming weeks through October – National Cybersecurity Awareness Month – there will be much discussion regarding cybersecurity.

As members of the business community, it is extremely important to educate yourself and others regarding the importance of cybersecurity.
