Survey: How is COVID-19 affecting business in the Lehigh Valley?

LVB Staff//April 20, 2020

As businesses throughout the Greater Lehigh Valley deal with challenges presented by COVID-19, Lehigh Valley Business wants to hear from you, our readers.

Earlier this month we emailed reader surveys to poll feedback from regional businesses. The results are below. We hope that you can benefit from this feedback and that LVB can better gauge the information that businesses need to have in order to not only bounce back from recent closures or interruptions but also rebuild once the COVID-19 restrictions are finally lifted.

Results from our first survey, which launched the first week of April, are below – along with some survey comments, elaborating on answers.

Reader comments:

  • “We have closed our doors to the public. WE have transitioned to an online Zoom interview and orientation process with a robust health screening question form.”
  • “Our office is closed. Those working remotely are having to be creative and tech savvy to communicate with clients and colleagues.”
  • “Business has come to a total stop. No one wants to think about real estate until this passes and shakes out. Unless it was a current deal in process.”
  • “Yes- we are unable to count on invoices being paid and we are discounting and deferring payments. We have stopped meeting with our clients and traveling to their offices.”
  • “Our warehouses have not changed much except that business has slowed. We are expecting less efficiency due to social distancing practices.”

As you manage work in this new environment, what kind of information has proven to be helpful?

Reader comments:

  • “Daily briefings from the president and COVID-19 task force.”
  • “Feedback from team members on approaches that work for them, shared on daily conference calls with all team members.”

What measures have you taken to keep your employees safe?

Success stories:

“We use Google GDrive as our server and all employees have a laptop, so we are set up for this. We also pay for employee’s cell phones. This all let us transition to working at home without transition.”

“We have been very fortunate that we can still service our customers and a majority of our team can work from home. I have been in communication with our entire company daily to keep everyone informed. It truly helps keep the team informed and relaxed as much as possible. ”
