Berks County employers can soon advertise their employment opportunities on a new online job search engine. The Berks County commissioners voted to allocate funds for the career site, which will help Berks County employers and job seekers, on Jan. 24.

The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry awarded $2.4 million in workforce development grants to counties across the commonwealth. The funds awarded are designed to help employers partner with schools to provide career training.

As construction nears completion, Berks County developer Alan Shuman, is providing the names of some of the tenants that will be occupying one of his latest retail developments, Lancaster Avenue Plaza in Reading.

As part of Tower Health’s recent partnership with Philadelphia’s Drexel University, 110 clinicians and staff from Drexel Medicine joined Tower Health Medical Group, effective Jan. 1.

More than $5 million in state funding will go to dozens of community revitalization projects across Pennsylvania to upgrade business facades, build accessible housing and make infrastructure improvements, the Wolf administration announced.

A new industrial park will soon be built in Ontelaunee Township. Two loans, provided by the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority, will fund the purchase and development of land for an industrial park at the southeast intersection of Routes 61 and 73.

Eights Gym & Fitness, a gym and fitness center, has opened for business in Alburtis. The gym, located at 200 Franklin St. is open to members up to seven days a week and 24 hours a day, depending on membership plan chosen. 

Latinos in the Berks County area will soon have a new resource for job readiness training. The Berks Latino Workforce Development Corp., a nonprofit that will provide workforce development training for Latinos, is projected to begin providing services in the spring of 2020.

A former Santander Bank branch will give way to Jonestown Bank & Trust when the Lebanon County-based bank expands into the Berks market with a new branch in Robesonia early next year.
