Northampton County has first confirmed case of coronavirus

The first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Northampton County was reported by the Pennsylvania Department of Health this morning.

Four new cases of COVID-19, better known as the coronavirus, were also reported in Montgomery County, bringing the statewide total to 21 cases. Montgomery County is reporting the most at 13. There are two confirmed cases in Bucks County, two in Monroe County, one in Delaware County, one in Philadelphia County, one in Wayne County, and the Northampton County case.

All are adults and are either in isolation at home or being treated at the hospital, according to the Department of Health.

“While we anticipate that there will be more Pennsylvanians with COVID-19 in the coming days and weeks, it is important for residents to know the commonwealth is prepared and to be prepared themselves,” said Dr. Levine, Pennsylvania Secretary of Health.  “Right now, you have a higher chance of testing positive for COVID-19 if you have traveled to a country or state with known community outbreaks or have come in contact with someone who has the virus. We are working with the health care community across Pennsylvania to keep them informed, consult on patient testing and ensure they have the resources they need to care for patients.”
