U.S. Department of Labor gave Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh County-based Ondra Huyett a 2022 HIRE Vets Platinum Medallion Award to recognize its efforts to recruit, employ and retain military veterans.
 

Health care 
Hanover Township, Lehigh County-based Boy Scouts of America Minsi Trails Council gave John Nespoli its 2022 Carbon County Friends of Scouting Distinguished Citizen award for his contributions to the Carbon County community over the last four years. Nespoli is president of the Lehighton and Carbon campuses of Fountain Hill, Lehigh County-based St. Luke’s University Health Network. Nespoli’s work included building the new St. Luke’s Carbon Campus in Franklin Township, refurbishing and repurposing St. Luke’s Lehighton Campus and decommissioning Palmerton Hospital.
 

Trucking 
Memphis, Tennessee-based FedEx Ground named Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh County-based Y F L Trucking Corp. an Entrepreneur of the Year in its Eastern region. Winners were selected from among more than 6,000 small businesses that provide contracted package pickup, delivery and transportation services to businesses and individuals. Y F L Trucking received the award for its exemplary safety results, customer service, business operations and community support. Yafil Nunez is Y F L Trucking’s CEO.

Associations 

The Community of Lebanon Association selected Vincent Garcia as 2022 CLA Merritt Marks Businessperson of the Year. Garcia is president of CPA firm Garcia Garman & Shea PC. 

Banking/Finance 

A senior vice president, wealth management in Morgan Stanley‘s Camp Hill office, Meron Yemane was recognized by the Association of African American Financial Advisors as a top 50 under 50 performer, with special distinction as the top producer, Wire House. 

Patti Husic, president and CEO of Harrisburg-based Centric Financial Corp. and Centric Bank, has been selected from hundreds of national top-tier female bankers as one of American Banker’s Most Powerful Women to Watch. 

Education 

Elizabethtown College Dean of the School of Engineering, Math and Computer Science and Associate Professor of Engineering Sara Atwood was named winner of the 2022 Women in Tech Diversity/Inclusion Award. The announcement was made at the sixth annual WIT Awards event, presented Sept. 14 in Harrisburg by the Technology Council of Central Pennsylvania. 

Government 

The Pennsylvania Treasury’s Transparency Portal has received the 2022 Government Experience Project Award from the Center for Digital Government. Presented at the virtual GovX Summit, the award recognizes the achievements and best practices of states, cities and counties that are improving the experience of government and how citizen services are delivered. 

Health Care 

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Lebanon VA Medical Center announced that it was named the top VA Medical Center in the country for patient experience. The medical center and its five associated community clinics received the award during the VA’s annual Customer Experience Symposium held Sept. 7-8 in Washington, D.C. This is the second consecutive year the local veterans’ health care system received the prestigious national honor for patient and employee satisfaction. 

Mechanicsburg-based Select Medical announced that 16 of its inpatient rehabilitation hospitals have been named to Newsweek’s 2022 list of America’s Best Physical Rehab Centers, including Penn State Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Hummelstown. 

Jenna Davis, an assistant professor of nursing at York College’s Dr. Donald E. and Lois J. Myers School of Nursing and Health Professions and a neonatal intensive care registered nurse at WellSpan York Hospital, earned the Robyn Main Excellence in Clinical Practice Award from the National Association of Neonatal Nurses. 

Media 

The Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences presented the 2022 Mid-Atlantic Regional Emmy Awards during its in-person gala at the Loews Hotel in Philadelphia. A total of 86 entries in 80 categories were recognized, honoring excellence in television news, programming and achievement in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. 

WHP CBS21, Harrisburg, was awarded the Emmy for Newscast – Evening – Smaller Markets, while WGAL-TV, Lancaster, and WPMT Fox43, York, won three awards each and WHTM abc27, Harrisburg, captured two awards. 

 

Giving 

Utilities
Allentown, Lehigh County-based PPL Electric Utilities raised a record $129,000 from its 28th annual Operation HELP golf tournament. Tournament proceeds will be used for Operation HELP, a fuel fund that provides grants to income-eligible PPL Electric customers who struggle to pay their energy bills. Operation HELP is primarily supported by donations from PPL Electric, its employees and customers, but the annual golf tournament has become its largest fundraiser. Since 1983, Operation HELP has contributed more than $33 million in grants toward customer bills and has helped more than 110,000 families in need.  

PPL Electric Utilities donated a digger derrick truck to Northampton Community College’s lineworker training program. PPL Electric helped build and start the training course at the college in 2011, and since then, it has provided wooden poles, vehicles and equipment to help students gain hands-on experience. The program’s instructors also are current or former PPL Electric lineworkers.

Banking and finance
 Greater Valley Forge Transportation Management Association named American Heritage Credit Union a Transportation Demand Management Advocate. This award recognizes organizations that encourage alternative transportation for employees to promote environmental sustainability. The credit union was one of 28 entities to receive the award.
 

Health care
Hanover Township, Lehigh County-based HNL Lab Medicine plans to relocate its Kutztown patient service center to 15100 Kutztown Road, Unit #2, in Maxatawny Township, and reopen effective Oct. 17. 

Logistics
Supply & Demand Chain Executive magazine gave Jamie Rigot its 2022 Women in Supply Chain Award, which honors female supply chain leaders who provide a foundation for women throughout the company. Rigot is vice president of dedicated contract carriage operations for the central region for Cumru Township, Berks County-based Penske Logistics. Rigot assigns equipment and drivers to a single customer, resulting in greater efficiency and reduced shipping costs.   

Marketing
Alliance Franchise Brands gave Ed Kelchner a Circle of Excellence, Sales Excellence and Sales Pinnacle awards The Circle of Excellence Award was given for showing superb customer support, and the Sales Excellence and Sales Performance awards for outstanding sales performance. He is owner of Hanover Township, Lehigh County-based Allegra Marketing Print Mail in Lehigh Valley. 

Real estate
EM & M Family LP sold a 2,666-square-foot convenience store at 1660 New Holland Road, Kenhorst, Berks County. High Associates Ltd. in East Lampeter Township, Lancaster County, and North Forest Realty represented the seller, and Re/Max of Reading in Spring Township, Berks County, represented the buyer.
 

The Rebecca Francis Team of Berkshire Hathaway Fox & Roach Realtors relocated its office to 3477 Corporate Parkway, Suite 150, in Upper Saucon Township, Lehigh County. The team specializes in luxury homes in the Lehigh Valley and Bucks County markets. 

Nonprofits
Hanover Township, Lehigh County-based Boy Scouts of America, Minsi Trails Council gave Tony Iannelli and Don Cunningham Jr. the 2022 Distinguished Citizen Award for their achievements and service to the Lehigh Valley community. Iannelli is president and CEO of Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, and Cunningham is president and CEO of Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corp.  

Retail
Instore, a magazine for North American independent jewelry store owners, named Murphy Jewelers one of America’s Coolest Jewelry Stores, based on exterior and interior appearance, store biography, marketing, web presence and overall individuality. Its Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, store was eighth in the Big Cool division of stores with six employees or more.

Banking and finance

Forbes’ 2022 Best-In-State Wealth Advisors list ranked Emilio “Jack” Morrone of One Financial Services 88th out of 136 high net worth advisers in Eastern Pennsylvania. ranking was based on industry experience, client retention and assets under management. The entire Forbes list includes more than 6,500 advisers. He is based in Allentown, Lehigh County, and has more than 35 years of financial services industry experience.

Economic Development

Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives gave Greater Reading Chamber Alliance a Communications Award of Excellence for its website redesign. Leah Fassnacht, the alliance’s director of communications and marketing, and Audrey Krupiak, digital marketing coordinator, managed the six-month-long project under the guidance of LaunchDM, an alliance member.

Health Care

Capital Blue Cross was honored recently by the Hispanic Center Lehigh Valley (HCLV) with its prestigious Community Leadership Award, which recognized Capital Blue Cross’ commitment to providing COVID-19 vaccines to disproportionately impacted Lehigh Valley communities.
