George Speros Maniatty, the first president of Precision Roll Grinders, died peacefully at his Allentown home Feb. 7.

Maniatty, 84, served for 32 years as president of Precision Roll Grinders from its founding in 1969 until 2002, when he joined the board of directors. He retired this year.
Born in Barre, Vt., Maniatty graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York with a mechanical engineering degree. He worked for Proctor & Gamble prior to leading Precision Roll Grinders.
Maniatty instilled the culture of quality, dependability and integrity, a company statement said. He opened the Allentown, Carrollton and Lewisport facilities, growing the company into new markets.
“George Maniatty gave Precision Roll Grinders his unwavering support, mentoring many of us along the way, myself included,” said Ed Gumina, current Precision Roll Grinders president. “He had a passion for this company and viewed all of us as family. We were privileged to have his gifted leadership and he is one of the main reasons that Precision Roll Grinders has become the most accurate large roll and cylindrical shaft grinding company in the world, and for that we are incredibly grateful.”
The Heintzelman Funeral Home in Schnecksville is in charge of arrangements. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 6667 Lower Macungie Road, Trexlertown.
