King Kone has gotten a bit bigger.
The popular Whitehall ice cream shop has moved to a new, larger location at 4128 Springmill Road, directly across from its previous location
“Even though it is winter, we have been busy at our new location,” said owner Rick Safi of North Whitehall. “People want to come and see our new place.” However, some customers aren’t aware of the move, and Safi has planned the grand opening to get the word out.”
King Kone opened at its new location Jan. 18. It will have its official grand opening Feb. 16 from noon to 9 p.m.
King Kone had been located in the Eagle Point Plaza strip mall at 5503 MacArthur Road since 1990. Safi bought the business in 2015.
“I bought the ice cream shop from its original owner, Charlie Nemeth, who created a great business,” Safi said. “I am happy to continue the legacy and to take the much-loved shop to the next level.”
The new stand-alone building offers 500 square feet more space than its previous mall location.
All the equipment at the Springmill location is new. But the menu remains the same.
There are more than 60 flavors of Leiby’s and Nelson’s hard and soft ice cream in cups and a variety of cones.
The menu also features frozen yogurt, water ice, gelatis, creative sundaes, milkshakes and more.
King Kone also serves special sundaes made specially for dogs.
The new shop offers additional parking and a larger outdoor seating area, which Safi expects to be popular in good weather.
A deck, with seating, was added to the building. The new location also allows King Kone to make its own ice cream cakes on the premises.
King Kone announced its move across MacArthur Road almost two years ago.
Completing the renovations to the building and securing the necessary permits took much longer than expected, Safi said. The building had been previously occupied by the Hoover Karate Academy.
King Kone is open year-round.
