The Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) is holding a public comment period for a package of proposed nursing home regulations for new construction, alterations and renovations of skilled nursing facilities. 

Nursing homes, personal care homes and other long-term care providers in the green phase of the state’s reopening plan will continue to have ongoing restrictions for at least 28 days after transitioning to green.

Pennsylvania is ill-prepared to serve a fast growing-population of older adults, according to state Auditor General Eugene DePasquale. DePasquale released a special report on July 23 that followed up on his 2016 audit of oversight of nursing homes by the state Department of Health.

Legislation introduced this week by Pennsylvania lawmakers would require nursing home and other adult care facilities to report all deaths, regardless of cause, to the county coroner.
