Tompkins VIST Bank changing name – to Tompkins

Stacy Wescoe//May 10, 2021

Tompkins Financial Corp. has announced plans to rebrand Tompkins VIST Bank of Wyomissing to simply Tompkins.

The company said the change will align the Berks bank with Tompkins Financial’s three other affiliated banks as it consolidates the banks into a single charter.

Tompkins Trust Company, headquartered in Ithaca, New York, Tompkins Mahopac Bank in the Hudson Valley and Tompkins Bank of Castile in western New York will also become Tompkins.

Stephen S. Romaine, Tompkins Financial president and CEO, said customers will see signage changes reflecting the new name over the next year.

However, none of the local leadership is changing, nor is the local board of directors. Existing banking products and services will not be changed and will continue to be offered under the Tompkins brand.

“Tompkins’ unique community banking value proposition – which is centered around local decision-making, relationship-based products and services, deep community engagement and a values-driven, collaborative, empowered culture – will be unaffected by the rebranding and name change,” Romaine said.

He said the alignment of bank names was made possible by the consolidation of four existing bank charters to one.

“It just makes good sense and is well timed,” said Romaine. “Becoming ‘one Tompkins’ in name not only more closely aligns our Tompkins family, but in fact, brings additional advantages which support the company’s ability to maintain its commitment to sustainable excellence.”

He said other than the name change customers should not see any direct impact from the change to a single charter.

The changes are expected to take effect later in 2021, subject to regulatory approval.
