Lehigh Valley Hospital was ranked the top hospital in Lehigh Valley by U.S. News & World Report.

The publication also ranked LVH among the top 10 hospitals in the state for 2022-34, making it the ninth straight year LVH has been on top according to the magazine, which has also recognized the hospital nationally among America’s Best Hospitals in various medical specialties 23 times since 1996, LVH said.

Reading Hospital ranked eighth in the survey for the state.

And Grand View Hospital was recognized as a “High Performer” for knee replacement, hip replacement, hip fractures, heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

LVH earned a high performing rating in six adult specialties including gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and lung surgery, and urology.

LVH also is listed as high performing in 13 Common Adult Procedures and Conditions tracked by U.S. News including aortic valve surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, diabetes, heart attack, and heart bypass surgery.

The hospital was also ranked as high performing for heart failure, hip replacement, kidney failure, knee replacement, pneumonia, stroke and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

Reading Hospital was also high performing in gastroenterology & GI surgery, geriatrics, orthopedics, pulmonary & lung surgery, and urology.

In addition to the national ranking, the hospital also received high performing marks regionally in the following specialty care: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) colon cancer surgery, diabetes, heart attack, heart failure, hip replacement, kidney failure, knee replacement, pneumonia, and stroke.

Tower Health’s Phoenixville Hospital earned a High Performing rating for COPD and Pottstown Hospital earned a High Performing rating for COPD and kidney failure. This is the highest level a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions ratings, Tower Health said.

“Congratulations to the teams at Reading, Phoenixville, and Pottstown Hospitals for the prestigious recognition from U.S. News & World Report,” said P. Sue Perrotty, Tower Health president and CEO. “This acknowledgement of our highly skilled clinicians and support staff clearly demonstrates their commitment to fulfilling our mission of providing high-quality healthcare to the community. I appreciate all they do for our patients and their families.”

Douglas Hughes, president and CEO of Grand View Health said, “We are committed to delivering safe, quality care to our patients. The U.S. News designations for knee replacement, hip replacement and hip fracture are a testament to our expert orthopaedic clinical and support staff at Grand View Health’s Joint Replacement Center, which is part of Grand View Hospital in Sellersville.”

The annual Best Hospitals rankings and ratings, now in their 33rd year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive quality care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures.

“The hospitals named to the U.S. News Honor Roll excel across numerous specialties and service lines,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “When patients and their medical professionals are considering their options for care, the rankings a re designed to help them identify hospitals that are superior in the kind of care they may need.”

The U.S. News Best Hospitals methodologies in most areas of care are based largely on objective measures such as risk-adjusted survival and discharge-to-home rates, volume and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators.

The Best Hospitals methodology factors in data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, American Hospital Association, professional organizations and medical specialists.
