The Kmart store in Wilson Borough is the latest in a number of locations to announce their closure since the retailer’s owner, Sears Holdings Corp. declared bankruptcy in 2018.
“After careful review, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to close the Kmart store,” said Larry Costello, spokesman for TransformCo., the parent company of Sears and Kmart.
“The liquidation sale is expected to begin in mid-September and the store is planned to close by mid-December,” he said in a statement.
Customers can continue to shop at the store’s website, he added.
He declined further comment.
At about 70,000 square feet, the 320 S. 25th St. location is next to L.A. Fitness.
The Wilson Borough store will join the Allentown, Wyomissing and Stroudsburg store closures previously announced on a list of more than 140 store closures.
