Construction of a popular convenience store will mark the last step of a multipart project to update a shopping center in South Whitehall Township.
Wawa is building a gas station/convenience store on the northern corner of the property at Cedar Point West Shopping Center at Cedar Crest and Hamilton Boulevard.
The roughly 5,500-square-foot store will have 12 pumping stations, said Jay King, president and CEO of King’s Real Estate Management & Development Co. in Windsor Township, Berks County. His firm is developing the project.
Building footers are being installed and the project should be finished for a July 1 opening and possibly by June 1 if the weather cooperates, King said.
Wawa is at a prime spot near Dorney Park, which opens for the season in late April.
Also in Cedar Point West is The Mortgage Co., which moved its 39 employees from office space on Winchester Road in South Whitehall Township to the shopping center. The company is scheduled to open in March in an 8,000-square-foot space next to Office Depot.
The developers renovated the façade of the building where The Mortgage Co. moved and created an entrance facing Hamilton Boulevard.
King is doing $9 million worth in redevelopment efforts to the shopping center, which included a bit of reshuffling.
Wendy’s reopened last fall in a newly built space where Friendly’s had been.
Friendly’s was torn down and the former Wendy’s was demolished to make for Wawa, making the shopping center fully leased.
