Steris Corp., a publicly traded company under the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol STE, acquired the firm last week. It is a global provider of infection prevention and surgical products and services in the health care, pharmaceutical and research markets.

“We serve many of the same customers in the life science industry,” said Stephen Norton, senior director of corporate communications and government affairs for Steris. “While it is a relatively small company … it’s very complementary to the services we already provide.”

Steris did not disclose the purchase amount.

Norton said the company will continue under the Micro-Clean name.

“It has very strong brand recognition,” he said.

He said Steris has no major changes planned for the business or staffing levels in the immediate future. He said his company bought Micro-Clean with the intent to invest in and grow the business.

“We have a larger footprint; this [acquisition] allows us to bring more investigative and technical consultation services to serve our customers and grow our business,” Norton said.

Micro-Clean is located on Commerce Way in Bethlehem. It has about 85 employees.
