Gas prices held steady this week, with the average price for a gallon of gas in Pennsylvania at $3.229 per gallon, according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report.
In the Lehigh Valley the average price for a gallon of gas ticked up only slightly at $3.172
on Oct. 28 as compared to $3.152 the week prior.
The average price is still lower than one year ago when it was $3.235 per gallon
AAA reports that the national average for a gallon of regular gas was also mostly stable, coming in at less than a penny below the past week to $3.044.
It noted that gasoline demand usually goes down in the fall as fewer people take road trips.
Even though the national average hasn’t fallen below the $3 mark, drivers are paying less than they were this time last year.
This week’s national average is 8.9 cents less than a month ago and 8.6 cents less than a year ago.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand remained flat at 8.45 million b/d. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 218.8 million barrels to 216.7 million. Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 9.6 million barrels per day.
At the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, WTI rose $1.26 to settle at $58.50 a barrel. The EIA reports crude oil inventories decreased by 1 million barrels from the previous week. At 422.8 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 4% below the five-year average for this time of year.
