As the conflict in the Persian Gulf continues gas prices are spiking again.
According to AAA East Central, the average price for a gallon of gas is seven cents higher in Pennsylvania this week at $4.167.
In the Lehigh Valley, the average price for a gallon of gas on April 27 was $4.123, up from $3.967 the week prior and $3.179 one year ago.
Nationally, drivers are also seeing increased gas prices this week as the national average has increased by seven cents since last week to $4.11.
AAA said that as of Monday morning, crude oil prices have seen an increase to around $96 per barrel. Currently, pump prices are almost a dollar higher than this time last year, when a gallon of regular sat at $3.14
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand decreased last week from 9.08 million barrels per day to 9.05 million. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 232.9 million barrels to 228.4 million. Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 10.1 million barrels per day.
At the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, West Texas Intermediate rose $3.29 to settle at $92.96 a barrel.
The EIA reports crude oil inventories increased by 1.9 million barrels from the previous week. At 465.7 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 3% above the five-year average for this time of year.
