LVHN readies to open Allentown fitness center

The Lehigh Valley Health Network Fitness Center will offer a variety of services, including a multisport simulation room for those keen to improve their golf swing, cross train or get back in the game after a sports injury or surgery, officials for Lehigh Valley Health Network said. On Hamilton Street, it is scheduled to open this month.
“Rehabilitation services will be on site, as a separate [location], in addition to the 11,000-square-foot sports performance training center,” said Lisa Bednarski, business operations manager for Lehigh Valley Health Network One City Center.
Costs to use the multisport simulator are $30 for a half-hour up to $60 per hour, Bednarski said.
“The goal is to provide services for professional and semi-professional athletes, as well as someone who has an injury and is struggling to improve,” said Eric Johnson Jr. of Lehigh Valley Health Network. Johnson is operations specialist and Allentown City Center campus project manager and veterans’ advocacy liaison officer for the Allentown-based health network.
The new facility’s proximity to PPL Center, home of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, an American Hockey League Affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, makes it easily accessible for players, visiting teams and fans, along with those who work in Allentown or live nearby.
Johnson said 15 new jobs, as well as the relocation of about 450 employees, would complete the new facility’s staffing in the fall.
“We are thrilled to launch as the inaugural, anchor tenant,” Johnson said in an email.
One City Center, in the Allentown Neighborhood Improvement Zone, is part of the city’s downtown revitalization initiatives.
“What a perfect orthopedic location with revitalization already in the rearview mirror,” Johnson said.
