Located in Center Valley, Olympus Corporation of the Americas, a wholly owned subsidiary of Olympus Corporation, is a medical technology company using “innovative capabilities in medical technology and precision manufacturing to deliver advanced diagnostic, therapeutic, and minimally invasive procedures to healthcare professionals,” according to the company’s website.

Olympus evolved from a camera manufacturer to a medical device manufacturer. Under the leadership of president and CEO Julien Sauvagnargues, Olympus sold its consumer camera business in 2021 and completed its transition to a medtech company in 2023.

“The transformation has allowed Olympus to focus on key priorities such as patient safety and medtech innovation,” Julien Sauvagnargues told Lehigh Valley Business. “We can now have a greater impact on elevating the standard of care for disease states in areas including gastroenterology, urology and respiratory.”

Olympas’ global headquarters are based in Japan. The company employs 29,000 employees globally across 38 countries. The Center Valley location employs 4,800 staff members across its North and South American locations.

“When Olympus relocated its OCA headquarters in 2006, the location of the Lehigh Valley was key for many reasons. Geographically, we’re situated in a larger region that hosts roughly a third of the U.S. population and numerous colleges and universities,” Sauvagnargues told Lehigh Valley Business in a prior interview. “Like any other company, Olympus is competing for talent. The concentration of a talented workforce that offers experienced professionals and the next generation of leaders made the Northeast the right place to situate OCA headquarters.”

Sauvagnargues also cited Lehigh Valley’s quality of life, cost of living, health care facilities and access to vendors among the reasons for making the region its home base.
