Olympus to distribute new tool which retrieves foreign items from human body

Olympus Medical Systems Group, the -based medical products company, has entered into an exclusive U.S. distribution agreement with Endo-Therapeutics, Inc., a Florida-based medical device manufacturer, for , a therapeutic tool used for endoscopic foreign body retrieval. 

An is a lighted, flexible, optical instrument that is used to get a deep look into the body. The SwirlNet endoscope aids in the retrieval of food impactions, foreign bodies and excised human tissue, such as polyps, according to .

Foreign bodies lodged in the gastrointestinal tract, such as marbles, coins, dice, buttons or batteries, which can be clinically challenging to retrieve, according to Olympus, can be removed with the new SwirlNet device.

The tool comes in multiple widths and lengths and is designed for multiple uses throughout a procedure.
